Description

'Sometimes that shark he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. And, you know, the thing about a shark... he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be living... until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin'

Quint (Robert Shaw) from 'Jaws'(1975)

This design will get printed on tee's.

I used a stone texture in the background AND foreground which I've altered/ repainted heavily

Sharks are depicted too clean by artists IMO.
I think the most scary part of the great white shark is the 'masochistic' look; shredded, torn look, especially in the mouth area where they bite constantly in their own flesh by the razor sharp teeth.

So I tried to emphasize that:)

Painted with Photoshop and Wacom graphire tablet

Fantastic Great White. I love the underwater effect. You have got the lighting just right in my opinion. And yes thase sharks are pretty battered looking in the mouth area so well done getting all that done

Freaky. I wouldn't care to meet that, umm, dude in a dark alley or dark shipwreck or whatever. :p The water reflections against his skin are awesome. To be honest, I'm not familiar with the finer--or, indeed, the greater--points of shark anatomy, but the teeth look a little flat and floppy to me. Eh, I dunno. But I think you did a fabulous job making 'im look beat up.

Thanks kerry,

well shark teeth are flat, more like razorblades.
That reminds me to post some refs (sorry forgot about that)

Hello wallace...
something that hit me when I looked at your painting
I think your jaw line is to clean and I think your shark needs more teeth
dont you watch discovery channel? :p

also when a shark opens their mouth like that their gums become more exposed.

Thanks all!

Hi Pam, thanks for the pics:)
I'm familiar with those:p
Actually it's excactly the same amount of teeth (in the upper jaw) like the main picture of your selection. And that picture happened to be my main reference:p

Azurelle maybe I should have been like you WOW 10+
at least my comment was constructive....
I like Wallace's shark I just think it needs more teeth and his jaw line is to clean sharks have a nasty mouth.. and it does alot of damage.. yah know?
peace out.

Avatar Azurelle

 03/28/07 @586

Well I like his shark and I find sharks not easy to paint sorry... :(

Avatar Andy--Jones

 03/28/07 @606

Great Whites dont have as many teeth in the bottom jaw as you'd expect, unlike cartoons they are very spaced out. And they have that flimsy look due to the fact that they are flat and are rotating forward as old teeth fall out. This may give the appearance that they are loose and flopping about but they are just pointing in different directions that's all.

Avatar Wallace

 03/28/07 @618

ha thanks for the back up Andy:)

Well all I can say is that I looked at many Great White pics
and the amount of teeth should be 'accurate'.

The rotated/disorganized look of the teeth of the lower jaw
is one of the most recognizable elements of this particular shark IMO

Thanks!

Great work, some areas seem to reduce sense of depth yet that makes for media this will be used. For instance the boat, although rather well depicted it appears too close because it is clear instead of being slightly blurred. Presentation is good, it catches the eye which t-shirts usually of an artistic nature need and having blurred areas may have made it difficult to appreciate when a person wearing walks be you.

hehe, great twist. first you show us the innocent dolphin pic to disarm us, then you throw a hungry shark at us. gotta say, i prefer this over the dolphin painting anytime, even though those were some of the sweetest looking dolphins i've ever seen. this one just totally blew me away. it looks so real!
