Description

The second design for my scheduled dragon trilogy.

The Chinese dragon is a symbol of wisdom, power, and luck in Chinese culture. Unlike Western dragons, oriental dragons are usually seen as benevolent and kind. Dragons have long been a symbol in Chinese folklore and art. Temples and shrines have been built to honor them.

Chinese dragons have serpentine bodies, four legs, and are usually without wings. They are said to be a composite of various other animals-the body of a snake, the antlers of a deer, the soles of a tiger, the scales of a carp, and the eyes of a demon.

I tried to make an easily recognizable chinese dragon, with lots of colours.

To Glenn: I really paid attention to mix up the colours;)

Of course, fullsize can be viewed here:

Your works are always of high quality sir :). This one is not an exception. I just think the back fur of the dragon should be blurrier.
Give you my max score (7/7)

Blue underbelly works quite well with red scales of the top side. Great work on the hair flow it has so many colors building it up just like real hair. Its' left antler could be rotated leftward more with its' jaw line. Well done overall, nice series thus far.

Wow, a nice Chinese dragon Very impressive details that you put in the texture, hair and scales.

Great lighting. I like the backlit effect. Personally I think the cast shadow from the rock of chinese character onto the the dragon, or from the dragon onto the rock, could be stronger, but right now it works fine as well.

Stunning - the lighting is very unusual and very brave, coming from behind and casting a shean across the lower body...
Excellent piece..

great job,...the only thing I'm less exited about is his face expression.. his mouth looks pissed of but his eyes don't seem to have that much emotion in them. All the rest is pretty :)

hehe...I have almost the same tattoo on my forearm...

stunning image, everything looks great to me...perspective, lighting and textures...my only crit, which loneorbit pointed out, is the angle of the left antler...another great work vince! +10

I like this one much more the first!
Very good use of colors and good composition.
The only thing I can notic is that the right horn (I don't know how to call it exactly...) it's too rotated to the left side and it's non in line with the head of the dragon.

hi vincent, great to see a chinese dragon. your previous one was also rather in the chinese style, i think there can never be enough chinese dragons :)
I like the fiery red hair, though i would like to see the eyes more fierce, as wild as in the traditional paintings. but that's a personal preference.
you must be quite proficient now with painting scales ;)

Great colors. Didn't really know what a traditional Chinese Dragon looks like until now:) Mayhap a little busy where he's coiled around the Chinese Symbol. If I were Chinese, could I still read it? The detailing is great!
