Description

Warning:
don't watch this if you have a serious snake phobia:p
Allrighty, how did I make this?
I used this reference to get the dynamics of snakes weaving in and out
eachother right and realistic:
http://img425.imageshack.us/img425/8706/snakepile5al.jpg

Note: these are eastern Ontario Garter snakes, they are in fact quite harmless, but they do have a nasty bite

I then traced the outer contours of two parts of the image with a 2B pencil, scanned it and then combined it.

based on that I made a rough painting to get the colours right, the lay out and the overall mood:

http://ic1.deviantart.com/fs10/i/2006/099/9/2/Snake_pile_concept_paint_by_wallace.jpg

And then it's just painting in the scales one by one by one...

If someone is interested I can submit a little turorial in the forum, as I have
developed a rather effective and efficent way of painting scales

Detail shot:

Okay, hope you like it:p

oh and by the way this will get printed on tee's (Spiral Direct, all rights reserved)

that's pretty awesome - I specially adore your patience
From my point of view the best artwork in your gallery. I am actually really scared of snakes but this is so well executed that I can't stop looking at it.

For some reason I think it's a pity you scrapped the one snake who is aiming out at the viewer (saw that in your scraps in DA). I think it would have made an awesome addition.

This is an absolutely awesome piece of art! Personally, I've done quite a few pieces including scales, but what you did here would have killed me for sure, lol.
Patience sure pays off, you prove that here :)
